Estonian National Museum

The conference will take place in the Estonian National Museum, located in Tartu, in Raadi area, about 2 kilometers distance from the city centre. The address is Muuseumi tee 2, Tartu. The main access is via entrance A.

The museum was founded in 1909 and is now located at the heart of the historic Raadi Manor complex and the former Soviet military airport. The new building, designed by the Paris-based DGT Architects, opened on 1 October 2016. The architectural design of the building is inspired by the location's history and brings new meaning and development to the historical area.

Locations in the ENM
The conference takes place in various auditoriums in the ENM, equipped with free Wi-Fi and electric plugs. The main conference hall is the Jakob Hurt Hall. Coffee breaks are provided for all the conference participants outside Jakob Hurt Hall.  Lunch is provided for all registered conference participants in the ENM restaurant.

Exhibitions
The museum houses traditions, new aims and engaging dreams. The new museum has been developed into a pleasant, interesting, attractive and gripping place for all ages. The new building is centered around two permanent exhibitions combining science and interactivity. The new dynamic Estonian permanent exhibition "Encounters" expands upon Estonian cultural history and everyday life and stretches out on a timeline from the present day to the Ice Age. The permanent exhibition of Finno-Ugric peoples, titled "The Echo of the Urals", provides insight into the lives of the different people speaking Finno-Ugric languages and inhabiting the northern parts of this corner of the world. The exhibition takes visitors to the lives of Northern people through different times and terms. In addition, there are several temporary exhibitions also free to visit for conference participants in the Temporary Exhibitions Halls. 

Library
At the main entrance of the ENM is the museum library, open from Tuesday to Friday 10:00-17:00. Computers are available for use and phones can be charged there. If you need to print your conference paper or boarding pass or make photocopies, this can be done in the library.

Getting to Estonian National Museum

On foot
From the city centre walk up Roosi Street crossing a couple of other streets until you come to Muuseumi tee. You will see the main entrance to the ENM across the street in front of you. From the Tartu Town Hall Square it is approximately a 20-to-30-minute walk.

By bike
You can use the Tartu Smart Bikes for getting around the city. For more information, see: https://ratas.tartu.ee/about/e-bike/ and download the Tartu Smart Bike mobile app.

Public transport
From the city centre, bus no. 7 goes to ENM (name of the bus stop in front of the museum: ERM) on business days every half hour at 23 and 53 minutes past the hour and on weekends every half hour at 05 and 35 past the hour. Start from Soola bus stop by the Dorpat Conference Centre or Raeplats bus stop by the old town. From ENM back to Soola and Raeplats, on business days the bus goes every half hour at 13 and 43 past the hour and on weekends every half hour at 27 and 57 past the hour. The ride takes around 10 minutes, the last bus from ENM back to the centre goes on business days at 23:01 and on weekends at 22:26.

From the city centre, bus no. 25 also goes to ENM and back. Bus no. 25 goes from Kesklinn III and Soola bus stops from the city centre and back to the centre from the Eesti Rahva Muuseum bus stop. This bus goes at different times during the day, so it is advised to look up the schedule online. All the information is available at tartu.peatus.ee, enter the name of the bus stop for details.

Tartu uses a chip card system, which can be purchased at R-Kiosk, shopping venues and stores. A list of retailers is available at www.tartu.ee/bussikaart. The card costs €2. You can load money onto your card and buy tickets at sales points, online at https://tartu.pilet.ee/buy and via your mobile phone. The cards can also be used in Tallinn (or Tallinn cards in Tartu).
In Tartu, a single ticket for 1 hour costs €1,50; a 1 day ticket €3,75; and a 5 day ticket €12,75. Note that you can also use your contactless card in every ride. The price for a single ticket is the same. Keep in mind that while you use a 1 or 5 day ticket, you still need to validate it by tapping your card that you used for the purchase on the machines found in buses near the bus doors.

Please note that during the conference days and while carrying your conference name tag with you, you can travel by bus within Tartu City limits for free!

Taxi
Most taxi drivers speak some English and all taxis are equipped with meters. The journey from the main square to the museum by taxi (Bolt app or Elektritakso at 1918) is around €5.

The Welcome Reception of the conference takes place on the 5th of March at the University of Tartu Museum. The University of Tartu Museum is located in the heart of Tartu – in the cathedral on Toome Hill – and its exhibitions present the history of the university and its research.

The University of Tartu Museum has been serving the university and society for over two hundred years. During this time, museums in the university have appeared and disappeared, merged and separated, but the main goals have remained unchanged: preserve the academic heritage of the university, educate and enlighten the young and old alike, and tell the history of the University of Tartu as well as the history of world science and art in a thrilling way. University of Tartu Museum is the place to enjoy the special spirit of Tartu and the University of Tartu. Here, you will also find fascinating exhibits about Tartu Cathedral, the Crazy Scientist's Lab and interesting temporary exhibitions.
